Who we are

Our mission

ESCAPE is a student-run organization that exists to end teen substance use before it becomes a lifelong struggle. We believe no young person should have to fight addiction — and that the surest way to win that fight is to prevent it from starting.

We're run by students, for students. Teens listen to peers in a way they never listen to adults — so we build peer-led workshops, mentorship, and awareness campaigns, partnering with students in other schools to spread prevention across our district and beyond.

Our values

  • Peer-led — students reaching students is how change actually happens
  • Honesty — teens deserve facts, not fear tactics
  • Compassion — substance use is a health issue, not a moral failure
  • Community — prevention is a team effort
The evidence

What makes prevention work

Decades of research — from the National Institute on Drug Abuse and SAMHSA — point to the same conclusions.

Start early

Prevention is most effective before first use. Programs that reach students in middle school — before peak risk years — have the strongest long-term impact.

Teach skills, not just facts

Knowing drugs are dangerous isn't enough. Teens need practiced skills: refusing offers, managing stress, and finding support — which is what our workshops drill.

Involve the whole village

Prevention sticks when parents, teachers, and peers reinforce the same message. That's why every ESCAPE program includes family and educator components.
